Nha Trang is famous for its beautiful beaches with tree lined streets and an abundance of high-rise luxury hotels. There are many reasons that this long-standing tourism city in Khanh Hoa Province increasingly attracts crowds to visit many of these popular locations listed below.
Ponagar Cham Tower
When in Nha Trang a visit to Ponagar Tower on the banks of the Cai River approximately 2 ks from the city center is highly recommended. This is one of the Cham people’s (one of Southeast Asia’s most powerful and influential civilizations dating back 2000 years) most important remaining sites. Traditional cultural and religious ceremonies are still held there to this day.
Today people can visit the site and stroll around the grounds looking at the three levels of buildings, the highest of which has two rows of towers, the main one standing some 23 meters high. The main tower was rebuilt around 817 AD.
The varied religious influences are depicted with representations of Shiva, a Hindu variety and Buddha. The roof is ornately decorated and numerous motifs and Sanskrit inscriptions can be seen on supports and walls. When one considers the Ponagar Temples have been more or less in constant use for over 2000 years, it puts into some context the immense cultural significance the site holds.
The Ponogar Cham Towers are open every day from 6am to 6pm with a small entrance fee of approximately 20,000 VND
Thap Ba Mud Bath
While in the area you can also enjoy the mud bathing experience at the nearby Thap Ba Hot Spring Resort. Thap Ba is a great place to relax and rejuvenate after a day of exploring Nha Trang.
